1. Networking and Building Fame 2. Spreading Your Message 3. Getting Valuable Feedback 4. Learning and Development

Is TEDx Worth It?

Achieving TED status is not for everyone. It takes a lot of time and energy, and most speakers pay consultants thousands of dollars for coaching and speechwriting.

TED organizers are looking for speakers with powerful ideas that will change their audiences’ perspectives. They aren’t interested in motivational talks or a long list of accomplishments.

1. It’s a great way to network

Many people believe that a great TED Talk can propel them into internet fame. They can then turn that internet fame into business opportunities and become a sought-after speaker. And this isn’t a myth: Thousands of entrepreneurs, lawyers, teachers, doctors, personal trainers, and even actors have done TED Talks.

One of the best things about TED is that it’s a place where people can share their ideas in a creative, exciting way. But the most important thing is that a TED talk provides breadcrumbs to lead your audience into your larger message.

For example, a good title should be like a trailer that draws the audience in. Then your speech should leave them wanting more, and then you can use your social media channels, website, book, or coaching to lead them in the right direction. If you follow these tips, your TEDx talk can be a powerful tool to help you achieve your goals.

2. It’s a great way to get your message out

A TED talk is one of the best ways to get your message out. It’s a platform that reaches millions of people, and it can help you build a following and get more business.

In order to do a TED talk, you need to have an interesting idea that is worth sharing. It’s not just about the experience you have or your education, it’s about the unique insight that you have.

You also need to make sure that your idea is aligned with TED’s mission of “ideas worth spreading.” For example, you can’t discuss politics or religion on the TED stage, and you can’t share pseudoscience.

You’ll want to make sure that your talk is well-practiced, and you’ll need a good media kit. This includes a bio, headshot, and a video of you speaking. This will help the speaker bookers and audience members see that you are serious about your topic. Then, they’ll be more likely to work with you.

3. It’s a great way to get feedback

Getting feedback on your TEDx talk from people outside of your immediate circle can help you improve it. Reach out to fellow speakers, or even TEDx event organizers, to get their insight on your topic and what makes a good TEDx talk. This will also give you a chance to get first-hand knowledge about the process of applying and giving a TEDx talk.

TEDx is a series of independently run events that feature talks in the TED format, which are six to eighteen minutes long and focused on ideas worth spreading. The big TED conference only happens once a year and has an intense process to be accepted to speak, but anyone can run a TEDx event.

TEDx is an amazing way to boost your credibility as a speaker and grow your speaking career. Keep up the momentum by posting TEDx news, speaker updates, and other information about your event online. You can also host salon events (weekly or monthly gatherings where TEDx talks are screened and discussed) to maintain interest in your community.

4. It’s a great way to learn

TED talks are up to 18-minute powerful videos that teach you something new. They are available on the TED website and have been viewed over a billion times worldwide. TED talks are one of the best ways to learn about new ideas and subjects. They are also a great way to learn public speaking skills.

A TED talk can help you position yourself as a global thought leader and can help you to get more speaking opportunities, book deals, media attention and more. It can even lead to a job offer or a business deal.

But it’s important to remember that TED talks aren’t just for well-known speakers with big followings and bestselling books. In fact, some TED speakers don’t have any followers or a bestselling book at all (such as Brene Brown and Simon Sinek). To improve your chances of being selected for a TEDx talk, be sure to watch plenty of talks and study the format.

The Power of Nutrition and Exercise in Diabetes Treatment

TEDxPurdue University and Diabetes

TEDx Purdue U: Diabetes

TEDx Purdue University speaker Sarah Hallberg argued that low-carb diets aren’t just for weight loss. She believes they can reverse Type 2 diabetes, a disease that affects about 10 percent of adults in the US. The former exercise physiologist presented her ideas in a video that has now been viewed more than 325,600 times online. Since her death last year, her family has created a legacy project to continue her work. It includes setting up a lecture course and podcast on T2D reversal.

TEDx Purdue U: Nutrition

In this TEDxPurdueU presentation, clinician Dr Sarah Hallberg starts a compelling conversation around diabetes and insulin resistance. She argues that nutritional change can wind back the symptoms of diabetes to a point where drug management is no longer necessary. Obviously this is not a cure but it is sensible medicine and could make a huge difference to those who struggle with the condition.

She also introduces the Nutrition and Exercise Clinical Research Center, which will offer public access to services including interview and health motivation resources for adults; metabolic research kitchen and ingestive behavior assessment area; and bone, muscle and body composition assessments. The facility will be led by Prof Wayne Campbell in the Department of Nutrition Science. The department currently has three distinguished professors and four university scholars, as well as offering a didactic program in dietetics, coordinated program in dieetics, food and nutrition in business and nutrition fitness and health.

TEDx Purdue U: Exercise

WEST LAFAYETTE — TEDxPurdueU, Purdue University’s independently organized manifestation of the TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) conference movement devoted to spreading ideas “worth spreading,” has unveiled its first lineup. TED Talk Questioning Techniques for Contact Centre Advisors

TED Talk Questions For Contact Centre Advisors

TED talks are a valuable way to spread information about important topics. But they can be difficult to prepare for.

This article will share a list of TED talk questions that can help you prepare for your next presentation. These questions will help you focus your research and ensure that your audience understands what you’re saying.

1. Could you please describe your problem in more detail?

This TED question encourages the customer to clarify their own expectations and helps the advisor get to grips with their query. It also enables them to uncover any recurring issues that the customer may have.

Use this TED talk response worksheet to facilitate discussion in your classroom after watching a TED Talk Video. It will help students become hunters, gatherers and presenters of new information.

2. Could you please describe your problem in more detail?

This is a great question for contact centre advisors to use to gain critical insights from customers. It is often used as a probing question following an open question.

If you stick to an Outcome topic without exploring beliefs around it, you will end up sounding the same as everyone else. This will also limit the impact of your message. This is a common problem with relative newbies to a field.

3. Could you please describe your problem in more detail?

For many customers, describing the problem in detail can be difficult. This TED question can help them to clarify the details of their issue and help the advisor to understand their requirements.

This question is useful for contact centre advisors, especially when they are dealing with complex problems that require a detailed explanation. This will enable the advisor to understand the customer’s issue and offer a solution that fits their needs.

4. Could you please describe your problem in more detail?

Often, customers skip over important details in their description of an issue. Asking this question enables advisors to uncover these critical details, and ultimately provide a solution to the problem.

Using this question can feel a little intimidating to some customers, but it is an effective tool for contact centre advisors who need to probe for more information. Try to use this technique with empathetic, positive language and a warm tone of voice.

5. Could you please describe your problem in more detail?

Oftentimes, customers skip over critical details when explaining their issue. Using a TED question, advisors can probe further and uncover clues that help resolve the problem.

Be careful with this one, however, as it could sound accusatory. Also, if a customer has already attempted to solve the problem themselves, this question may be perceived as offensive. Use in conjunction with other probing questions.

6. Could you please describe your problem in more detail?

Sometimes a customer may be so eager to get to the root cause of their problem that they skip over crucial details. By asking this question, an advisor can elicit vital information that will help them solve the issue.

Be careful using this question, as it can sound accusatory. Try to use it with patience and a positive tone of voice.

7. Could you please describe your problem in more detail?

Often used as probing questions within The Funnel Technique, TED questions enable contact centre advisors to unlock critical clues. This helps to ensure that the customer issue is understood and resolved correctly.

The best TED talks are ones that share a unique perspective or personal experience. They also demonstrate outstanding eloquence and persuasive skills. This talk is no exception! The speaker, Marcus Gentry, is an acclaimed author and speaker.

8. Could you please describe your problem in more detail?

When a customer shares their problem, sometimes they skip over crucial details. Using a question like this allows an advisor to probe further, thereby providing critical insights.

It also helps them rationalize their expectations. This is an important step to a positive resolution. It also helps to uncover previous solutions, which may help the customer avoid repeating their problem. This can save time and energy.

9. Could you please describe your problem in more detail?

This question enables the advisor to gain further insight into the customer’s problem. It can also uncover if the problem is a recurring one and lead to a resolution. These questions are often used as probing questions within the Funnel Technique.

Use this worksheet with your students to facilitate discussion after watching a TED Talk video. You can also download the follow-up worksheet, Deconstructing a TED Talk.

10. Could you please describe your problem in more detail?

A TED question prefixed with the word “could” enables contact centre advisors to probe customers. Such questions can unlock clues and help resolve customer issues quickly.

To avoid sounding like everyone else on a particular Outcome, try to come up with a new way to approach it. This is especially important if you have only recently joined a field. It is harder to gain traction with a generic topic.

Organize and Host a TEDx Event: Guidelines, License, and Rules

How to Organize a TEDx Event

TEDx events may last from a few hours to a full day and cover a broad range of topics. They are named after their locations and aim to serve the community they represent.

Up to 100 people can attend a standard TEDx event. The primary license holder must have attended a TED conference in person to organize a TEDx event.

TEDx License

The TEDx license grants permission for a TEDx event. However, the license is not a grant of rights to any specific intellectual property or content. The organizer of a TEDx is required to seek written permissions to use any third-party materials. The TEDx license also requires that the organizer follow the TEDx Content Guidelines and Copyright Guidelines.

TEDx events can be held in person or virtual, and may have up to 100 attendees. TEDx events cannot be used to raise funds or host commercial activities. They must be non-profit. TEDx organizers must also provide their viewers with a way to contact them.

TEDx events must adhere to the spirit of TED and be multidisciplinary. They must focus on ideas that have the potential to change attitudes, lives and the world. In addition, the primary TEDx license holder must have attended a TED conference in person. If this condition is not met, TED reserves the right to revoke the license.

TEDx Site

Organizing your TEDx event requires attention to detail and compliance with TED’s rules. Your TEDx events can last from a few hours to a full day and host up to 100 attendees. You must have a dedicated team of volunteers to help plan and execute your event.

Your TEDx theme should be broad enough to accommodate a wide variety of speakers and topics. You should also consider your local audience and the types of opportunities (jobs, media, customers) you want to attract.

Your TEDx organizers must adhere to the rules set out by TED and TEDx, including a maximum of 18 minutes for talks and no advertising or promotion of products on stage. You must also ensure that all materials used in talks are copyright-free. You must have your speakers sign a speaker waiver, which grants TED the right to edit and distribute videos of their presentations. The speaker waiver is provided by TED and can be downloaded here.

TEDx Social Media

As a TEDx licensee, you must follow TED’s guidelines and practices for the use of TED and TEDx logos. You cannot allow spectators to film your event, including talk sessions and breaks. Only a designated film crew working under the direction of a TEDx organizer may shoot b-roll at your event.

TEDx organizers should encourage their speakers and performers to keep their talks short and to the point. Breaks between talks and performances can be helpful, especially for audiences that might get bored or restless.

TEDx organizers should host a blog on their website and regularly send email updates to guests, including speaker announcements and interviews, newly released TED Talks, and event news and updates. Organizers should also encourage their audience to share their thoughts on the talks they’ve seen and to interact with one another through social media during the event. TEDx organizers can also create an editorial calendar with Studio talks relevant to specific themes or programming tracks.

TEDx Watch Party

TEDx Watch Parties are an excellent way to bring your community together to discuss and share ideas. These events allow people to join a virtual event that showcases the work of TED speakers and performers in their own community. Organizers must follow all TEDx rules, including those regarding the use of partners. For example, a partner cannot add any visual elements to the presentation slides or interview clips. This can distract from the content. TEDx also stipulates that the event should be named after its location.

Recruit team members who have event planning and project management experience to help you manage the many tasks involved in a TEDx event. Ideally, these members are passionate about TED’s mission and have the time to dedicate to the role. Be sure to include them in every decision-making process. You will need them to ensure that your event stays within the TEDx rules. For example, you must limit the length of talks to 18 minutes. Ensure that your event includes breaks between talks and performances.

1. Mastering the Art of Storytelling 2. Building Bridges through Empathy 3. Harnessing the Power of Optimism 4. Connecting through Powerful Storytelling 5. The Ancient Practice of Storytelling 6. The Essential Role of Storytelling in Communication and Strategy

TEDx Topics for Leaders

While a great presentation requires lots of work, creating a high-stakes TED talk takes even more. TED talks are 18 minutes long—a length that was chosen by TED organizers based on both neuroscience and strategy.

Dan Gilbert starts his TED talk with a staggering fact to capture the audience’s attention. This strategy is effective because it activates both hemispheres of the brain.

1. The art of story-telling

Good storytelling is an art. It can make you laugh, weep, or even stay up past your bedtime reading. Despite its elusive nature, it can be taught. From story structures to style advice, this TED talk gives you everything you need to master the art of story-telling.

TED Talks cover diverse topics and issues, including technology, science, design, education, activism, business, society, and child development. They are a great way to learn about new ideas and innovations from people around the world.

TEDx organizers want speakers who can keep their audience engaged. To prove that you’re ready, put together a media kit with your best materials.

2. The power of empathy

Using empathy and curiosity, leaders can build bridges that increase trust and engagement. It can also help them diffuse anger and other strong emotions.

Empathy is a natural human response that helps us connect with and understand others. However, it’s important to know that empathy is not the same as sympathy. In this TEDTalk, Mary Roach explains what empathy is and how it can be used to improve our lives.

TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share ideas around a common theme. These events are based on the TED format and must follow a set of guidelines to be licensed as a TEDx event.

3. The power of optimism

Optimism is an important skill for leaders. It helps them be more resilient in the face of adversity and enables them to stay energized, broaden their awareness, and build stronger relationships. Optimism is also linked to better health, as it encourages people to take action and tackle problems head-on.

You don’t have to be a born optimist, though. You can learn to be more positive by focusing on what’s going well and thinking about how things will improve. This is called “realistic optimism.” People who practice this approach tend to feel more satisfied with their lives and are healthier than those who are pessimists.

4. The power of storytelling

Harnessing the power of storytelling enables you to connect with your audience, inspire change, and move people into action. Whether through written words, visual arts, or spoken tales, stories can spark imagination and foster empathy.

TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). Founded in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment, and Design converged, TED today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues.

TEDx events are independently organized conferences where speakers present on their passions and interests. Talks are not censored, but must adhere to a set of rules and guidelines.

5. The power of storytelling

Whether around the campfire or on a digital screen, storytelling is an ancient practice that is key to human communication and persuasion. This fascinating new book by Ty Bennett dives into the mindset, skillset and toolset of influential communication.

TED Talks are a powerful tool for educators to introduce new ideas to their students. However, it can be challenging to find the right talks for your class. This list of 8 TED Talks for Kids will entertain and amaze your students while also teaching them about the world around them.

Messaging Expert Cathlyn Melvin helps mission-driven personal brands design and deliver their world-changing messages through TEDx coaching and done-for-you copywriting services.

6. The power of storytelling

From Aristotle’s Poetics to Shakespeare, Lin-Manuel Miranda to Taylor Swift, and from research studies to the design of cities, the power of storytelling has been proven again and again. Yet storytelling is rarely taught in planning masters programs, and few companies value or prioritize storytelling as an integral part of their strategy.

As a TEDx Speaker Coach, I’ve helped dozens of clients get booked at TED and TEDx events. More than credentials or speaking skills, a strong, compelling topic is essential to getting booked. It’s what separates good speakers from amazing ones. The right topic can make the difference between a talk that lands on a TED website and one that goes nowhere.

TEDxYYC: Connecting Communities Through Ideas

What is TEDx?

If you’ve ever watched a TED talk, chances are that you were struck by an intellectual adrenaline rush. This is a feeling that’s similar to the one that rips through you after a big accomplishment, except this time, it was fueled by imagination.

Calgary’s Rocket House Productions is bringing the softer side of parkour to TEDx. This is the acrobatic urban running, jumping and movement that you may remember from Casino Royale.

TEDxYYC is a not-for-profit organization

TED is an idea-based nonprofit organization that brings together the world’s most inspired thinkers. Its mission is to share ideas that can change the world and inspire action. This year, a wide range of speakers from around the globe will share their ideas on topics such as leadership, inspiring action, and fueling the good in others.

The conference’s iconic talks have been viewed more than 20 million times, and its ideas have influenced thousands of communities. Many of its participants have become global leaders in their fields, including activists Dan Pallotta and Jill Bolte Taylor, author Malcolm Gladwell, sustainability expert Paul Hawken, and educator Salman Khan.

TEDx is organized on a community-by-community basis and follows the same rules as TED conferences. Organizers are not allowed to raise money for commercial or religious organizations, and the event cannot be used as a platform to sell products. It can, however, be used to spark conversation and connection within the community.

TEDxYYC is a community

TEDx is a program that supports independent organizers in the spirit of TED’s mission, “ideas worth spreading.” Each event is organized locally on a community-by-community basis under a free license from TED. The events combine a TEDTalks video with live speakers to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.

This year, TEDxYYC is proud to host 10 inspiring speakers from across the city at the Telus Spark science centre. The sold-out event will showcase the work of some of Calgary’s brightest minds, from social entrepreneurs to technology innovators and more.

CBC Radio One’s Homestretch recently spoke with adventurer and TEDxYYC speaker Christina Franco, who is skiing to the North Pole for the third time. We asked her what she hopes to take away from the event. “TEDx is a community of people who share ideas and feel like they belong to something bigger than themselves,” she said. “It’s a place where you can share your ideas and meet other people who have the same interests.” TEDx is also a catalyst for change.

TEDxYYC is a platform

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). It began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged. Since then, its scope has expanded to cover almost all topics. It also has spawned a number of offshoots, such as TED-Ed, TED Prize, and TED Fellows.

A TEDx event is an independently organized TED-like experience held in a local community. Its purpose is to spark conversation and connection by sharing ideas with the goal of empowering local communities. TEDx events are planned and coordinated on a community-by-community basis, and they can include live speakers and performances.

The upcoming TEDxYYC lineup includes WiseGuyz founder Blake Spence, street dancer Bobby Mileage and food designer Chloe Rutzerveld. It also features David Moscrop, a political theorist who studies information flows in the public sphere and democratic decision making.

TEDxYYC is a conference

TED is an annual conference where leading thinkers, dreamers and doers gather to share their ideas. Initially, TED stood for Technology, Entertainment and Design but now it encompasses topics that are much broader, including science, globalization and education. TED was started in 1984 by Richard Saul Wurman and Harry Marques and is now run by Chris Anderson through his non-profit foundation, The Sapling Foundation1.

TEDx is a program that gives communities, schools, companies or even groups of friends the ability to organize their own TED event under the TEDx license. The events are independently organized but are bound by certain rules and regulations. TEDx events are characterized by the fact that they combine live TEDTalks video with speakers and performances.

TEDxLakeJunaluska was started by a group of passionate people who wanted to bring a TED-like experience to their local community. It features a range of speakers and performers from all walks of life. Each talk is accompanied by an animated sketch to illustrate the speaker’s message.
